I enlisted in the US Navy in December of 1972 at 18. I would have enlisted directly after graduation from Thornton Academy at the age of 17, but my parents refused to sign a waiver because the Vietnam War was going on.
Here I graduated boot camp in Orlando in 1973, FL as part of 007 Company.
At the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Millington, TN I completed my aviation electronics “A” and Advanced “B” Schools.
After completing Anti-Submarine Warfare Operations Center “C” school in Damneck, VA, I reported to the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67).
I left the US Navy active service and immediately enlisted in the US Navy Reserves stationed at the Naval Air Station in Brunswick, ME.
I retired as a Chief Petty Officer (E-7) in 2000 after a combined service of 27 years.
It is my hope that if elected to the Maine House of Representatives, that I would be allowed to serve on the Veterans & Legal Affairs Committee.
What gives me the greatest pleasure is that three of my four children have followed my lead and entered the military directly out of Thornton Academy High School. The only one who couldn’t, wanted to enter the military medical corps but suffers from asthma which disqualified her from military service.
